Guide B2B Marketplaces
Best B2B Marketplace in India: How to Choose the Right Portal
Short answer
There's no single best B2B marketplace in India for every business. For most domestic sellers the shortlist is IndiaMART, JD Mart and TradeIndia, which all let you list a catalogue and receive buyer enquiries; IndiaMART is the largest and most transparent about leads, JD Mart adds escrow and quote comparison, and TradeIndia offers a free tier and export orientation. Retailers buying stock may prefer an ordering app such as udaan, and businesses selling to government need GeM. The best choice is the one where your buyers already search and where your cost per order is lowest.

The realistic shortlist of B2B portals in India
| Platform | What it is | Best fit | Distinctive feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| IndiaMART | Horizontal B2B marketplace, since 1996 | Sellers wanting predictable allocated leads; broad industrial coverage | Published weekly BuyLead allocation by plan (IndiaMART help (opens in a new tab)) |
| JD Mart | Horizontal B2B marketplace by Just Dial Ltd, since 2021 | Wholesale sellers and bulk buyers wanting RFQs and escrow | RFQ, Get Best Price, escrow, seller dashboard (official (opens in a new tab)) |
| TradeIndia | B2B marketplace and directory, since 1996 | SMEs and EXIM-oriented sellers; free product listing | Buy Leads and inquiries (app listing (opens in a new tab)) |
| udaan (opens in a new tab) | B2B e-commerce app | Retailers and small businesses buying stock | Ordering-focused rather than enquiry-focused |
| GeM (opens in a new tab) | Government e-procurement | Selling to government departments and PSUs | MSE purchase preference (GeM training (opens in a new tab)) |
We list these in no ranked order. We don't publish scores because we haven't run controlled tests of lead volume across platforms, and the result would differ by category anyway. Our review methodology explains why.
What the platforms themselves report
Size is not the same as fit, but it is a useful starting point. The figures below are self-reported by each company and cover different things, so they can't be compared directly.
| Platform | What is reported | Figure |
|---|---|---|
| IndiaMART | Unique business enquiries, Q1 FY27 | 26 million (release (opens in a new tab)) |
| IndiaMART | Supplier storefronts / paying suppliers, June 2026 | 8.8 million / 218,000 |
| Justdial (whole company, mostly local search) | Active listings / paid campaigns, June 2026 | 56.1 million / 639,200 (Business Today (opens in a new tab)) |
| TradeIndia | Registered users / active sellers (app listing claim) | 10 million+ / 4.5 million |
Why "best" depends on your business
A pump manufacturer in Coimbatore, a garment wholesaler in Surat and a café chain buying packaging have little in common. The platform that works for one can disappoint another, because results depend on:
- Category demand: how many buyers search for your product on that platform.
- Competition: how many sellers already list the same item, and how complete their listings are. On IndiaMART, for example, entry-tier Silver subscribers compete with higher tiers that coverage suggests have benefited more from improved buyer quality (Inc42 (opens in a new tab)).
- Buyer type: retailers, factories, institutions and government buy in different ways.
- Your response capacity: enquiry marketplaces reward sellers who reply quickly.
- Budget and terms: monthly versus annual commitments, and what's included.
How B2B marketplaces make money, and why it matters
Understanding the revenue model tells you what you're paying for. Catalogue-and-enquiry marketplaces (IndiaMART, JD Mart, TradeIndia) mainly charge sellers subscriptions for visibility, verification and leads; buyers use them free. That means the seller is the customer, and the platform's incentive is to keep paying sellers satisfied with lead flow. Ordering platforms earn on transactions, so their incentive is to make ordering smooth. Government procurement (GeM) exists to serve public buyers under procurement rules. When a sales pitch focuses on visibility, ask how visibility converts into qualified enquiries in your category.
Five questions to pick the right marketplace
Are you buying or selling?
Buyers can use every platform free and should focus on verifying suppliers. Sellers face the real choice.
Who are your buyers?
Businesses through enquiry marketplaces; retailers through ordering apps; government through GeM; local walk-in customers through Justdial and local listings.
Search your product as a buyer would
On each platform, count competing sellers and check what they show: price, MOQ, photos. Gaps are opportunities.
Get written terms
Ask each platform for package scope, term, cancellation terms and expected enquiry volume in your category and city.
Test before committing long-term
Run one or two platforms for 90 days, log every lead, and compare cost per order. See lead quality and ROI.
A scoring sheet you can fill in yourself
We don't score platforms for you, but you can score them for your own business. Rate each platform 1-5 on each criterion after your research and test, weight the criteria by importance, and compare totals.
| Criterion | Weight (your choice) | IndiaMART | JD Mart | TradeIndia |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Buyer activity in my category | 30% | |||
| Competing sellers (fewer is better) | 15% | |||
| Cost per qualified lead from test | 30% | |||
| Tools I'll actually use (escrow, CRM) | 10% | |||
| Terms flexibility (monthly, cancellation) | 15% |
Starting points by business type
| You are | Start by testing | Read next |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer | IndiaMART and JD Mart; TradeIndia if export matters | B2B marketplace for manufacturers |
| Wholesaler or distributor | JD Mart and IndiaMART | Wholesale platforms for MSMEs |
| Small business or startup | One marketplace plus free listings | B2B platform for small businesses |
| Bulk buyer or retailer | Search all; use RFQs and escrow for first orders | B2B platform for bulk buyers |
| Supplier to government | GeM | GeM (opens in a new tab) |
| Supplier seeking new buyers | IndiaMART, JD Mart, plus direct channels | Marketplaces for Indian suppliers |
What about the best online wholesale marketplace in India?
"Wholesale marketplace" covers two different models. Enquiry marketplaces (IndiaMART, JD Mart, TradeIndia) connect buyers and sellers who then negotiate directly; they suit custom quantities, industrial goods and repeat supply relationships. Ordering platforms (such as udaan) let buyers place orders at listed prices, which suits retailers restocking standard goods. Decide which buying behaviour fits your customers first, then choose within that model.
Choosing for buyers versus sellers
The "best marketplace" question means different things for each side. For buyers, all the main platforms are free to search, so the best approach is to search two or three and compare response quality; the decision is about which supplier, not which platform. For sellers, the platform is a cost, so the decision rests on cost per order in your category. A platform that is excellent for buyers in one category can be poor value for sellers in the same category if competition is intense.
How the Indian B2B marketplace landscape is changing
Three shifts are visible in the companies' own recent disclosures. First, platforms are pushing beyond listings into transactions and credit: IndiaMART's board approved a lending-facilitation subsidiary alongside its June 2026 results (Inc42 (opens in a new tab)), and JD Mart has offered escrow for some time (FAQ (opens in a new tab)). Second, platforms are packaging "qualified" leads and richer catalogues, as with Justdial's JD Mart Super Sixer Pack (Business Today (opens in a new tab)). Third, entry-tier sellers face more pressure: coverage of IndiaMART's results tied a fall in paying suppliers to churn among entry-level subscribers. For sellers, the implication is the same: judge platforms on measured results, not on feature announcements.
A note on rankings you see elsewhere
Many lists of the "top 10 B2B portals in India" rank platforms without stating a method, and some are written by platforms or agencies with an interest in the result. Before relying on any ranking, check who wrote it, what was measured, and when. Our approach is to describe each platform from its own documentation and filings, flag what isn't published, and give you a method to test in your own category.
Where Justdial fits for B2B buyers and sellers
Justdial isn't a B2B marketplace in the same sense as IndiaMART or JD Mart, but it plays a role in B2B discovery: many buyers look up local suppliers there, check reviews and call. For sellers with nearby trade customers it complements a marketplace listing, and for buyers it helps find suppliers to visit. Our sister site JD Review explains whether Justdial is good for B2B businesses.
Red flags in any marketplace sales pitch
- Guaranteed sales or guaranteed numbers of orders.
- Pressure to sign an annual plan on the first call.
- Refusal to state enquiry volumes for your category in writing.
- Unclear renewal and cancellation terms.
- Headline "views" or "impressions" offered instead of enquiries.
None of these means the platform is bad; they mean you should ask more questions before paying.
Key takeaways
- IndiaMART, JD Mart and TradeIndia are the main horizontal B2B marketplaces for domestic sellers.
- Ordering apps and GeM serve different buyer types.
- Reported scale figures are self-reported and not comparable; fit matters more than size.
- Choose by where your buyers search, then confirm with a 90-day test.
Frequently asked questions
Which is the No. 1 B2B portal in India?
IndiaMART is the longest-established and reports the largest platform figures, such as 26 million unique business enquiries in Q1 FY27. "No. 1" by size doesn't mean best for your category; compare cost per qualified lead in your own test.
Is JD Mart a good B2B marketplace?
It's a credible option with RFQs, escrow and a seller dashboard, run by Just Dial Ltd. Whether it's good for you depends on your category. See is JD Mart worth it for sellers.
Are B2B marketplaces free?
Most offer free basic listings and free use for buyers. Sellers usually pay for better visibility, more leads or verification.
How many B2B marketplaces should I join?
Start with one paid marketplace plus free listings elsewhere. Add a second paid channel only once you can answer enquiries from both quickly and track results separately.
Is the best B2B marketplace different for buyers and sellers?
Yes. Buyers can search all platforms free and should focus on choosing suppliers; sellers pay, so they should decide on cost per order in their category.
Which B2B portal is best for a startup?
Free listings on IndiaMART, JD Mart and TradeIndia, then one paid test on the platform where your product shows the most buyer activity.
Is IndiaMART worth it in 2026?
For many sellers, yes, especially on tiers that fit their category; coverage of its 2026 results noted entry-tier churn, so test carefully before committing.
Is TradeIndia still relevant?
Yes, particularly for export-minded sellers and those wanting a free product listing.
