What a B2B marketplace actually does
A B2B marketplace is a meeting place for businesses that buy and sell in trade quantities. Sellers (manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors and traders) publish catalogues with specifications, prices and minimum order quantities. Buyers (retailers, factories, contractors, offices and institutions) search those catalogues or post a requirement and receive quotes from several suppliers. The deal is then negotiated directly, sometimes with platform tools such as escrow. In India this catalogue-and-enquiry model dominates because most trade still involves negotiation over quantity, terms and delivery. The largest platforms are substantial: IndiaMART reported 26 million unique business enquiries in the June 2026 quarter (IndiaMART Q1 FY27 release (opens in a new tab)), and Justdial, which runs JD Mart, reported 56.1 million active listings across its whole platform (Business Today (opens in a new tab)).
Spotlight: JD Mart and Justdial
Two services from Just Dial Ltd stand out for Indian businesses. Justdial is one of India's most-used local search services, with 192.9 million unique visitors and 56.1 million active listings in the June 2026 quarter (Business Today (opens in a new tab)). It's free to list, and monthly paid packages let small businesses grow visibility step by step. JD Mart, its B2B marketplace, offers something buyers rarely get elsewhere: free escrow on orders, plus Get Best Price requests that bring several quotes from one requirement (JD Mart FAQ (opens in a new tab)). Both are backed by a profitable listed company with over ₹6,000 crore in cash and investments (JM Financial market news (opens in a new tab)). Start with our JD Mart hub and Justdial hub.
The main platforms in one paragraph each
IndiaMART is the longest-established and largest horizontal marketplace, and the most transparent about how leads are allocated to paying sellers. JD Mart is Just Dial Ltd's B2B marketplace, launched in 2021, with quote-comparison tools, a seller dashboard and an escrow option that is free for buyers (JD Mart FAQ (opens in a new tab)). TradeIndia is a long-running directory with a free product listing and an export-import orientation. udaan is an ordering platform where retailers buy stock at listed prices. GeM is the government's procurement marketplace, where Micro and Small Enterprises get purchase preference (GeM training (opens in a new tab)). Justdial itself is local search, for shops and service businesses that want nearby customers.
If you are selling
Pick platforms by where your buyers search, not by headline size. Complete every listing with a buyer-language title, exact specifications, a price range and MOQ, and real photos. Choose only the categories you genuinely serve. Reply to enquiries within minutes with a complete quote. Keep a simple lead log, and after 90 days compare cost per order with the gross profit those orders earned. Test one paid platform at a time, on short terms, and get scope, renewal and cancellation terms in writing. JD Mart does not publish a seller price list, and IndiaMART names its packages but leaves prices to its sales team, so written quotes are essential. Our guides on whether JD Mart is worth it and lead quality and ROI give the method.
If you are buying
Marketplaces are free for buyers and make it easy to collect several quotes, but a platform's legitimacy does not guarantee every seller. Write a precise requirement, compare quotes on landed cost (price plus freight plus GST), and shortlist three to five suppliers. Verify each one's GSTIN on the official GST portal (opens in a new tab), check company records where relevant, ask for a video call and a sample, and protect your first payment with escrow or a staged payment to a business account in the supplier's registered name. Our supplier verification guide walks through each check.
If you run a local business
Your most important free tools are a complete Google Business Profile and a complete Justdial listing with identical details, real photos and active reviews. Justdial reported 192.9 million unique visitors in the June 2026 quarter (JM Financial market news (opens in a new tab)), so a well-maintained listing reaches a large audience. Add a simple website with prices and a WhatsApp button, reply quickly, and measure enquiries by source before paying for any package. See free business listing sites.
How to read what you find online
Much of what is written about B2B platforms is promotional. Be sceptical of rankings without a stated method, prices without a source, "guaranteed leads", and usage figures quoted without saying what they measure. Company-wide figures for Justdial, for instance, describe mostly local search, not JD Mart alone. On B2B Review every factual claim links to its source, each source is labelled by type, and gaps are stated rather than filled in. Where we give a view, such as which platform to test first, we say it is our view and explain why.

How we research
Every factual claim links to its source, and each source is labelled: official platform documentation, company filings, independent reporting, or third-party figures we couldn’t confirm. Where information isn’t public, such as JD Mart’s seller price list, we say so instead of guessing. We don’t publish star ratings or scores without a test that others could repeat.
Our focus
B2B Review specialises in JD Mart and Justdial, and covers the wider Indian B2B market for context. It is not an official Just Dial Limited website. Platform names belong to their owners and are used only to identify them. Every factual claim links to its source, so you can check it yourself.
